A 25-year-old Bloemfontein man arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm has been sent straight behind bars to serve full five years in detention.
The Bloemfontein Magistrate Court found the accused, who is foreign national guilty on charges of dealing in unlicensed firearm and ammunition, judgement was handed down yesterday, June 28.
His conviction originates from an incident which took place during June 2021 where the police received information about Chidubem that he was dealing in unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Free State Hawks spokesperson Christopher Singo, said a sting operation was then conducted on 29 June 2021 by the Bloemfontein Hawks crime investigation and intelligence, where the accused was arrested trying to buy firearm and ammunition from the police.
The accused was in custody since his arrest and he appeared in court on several occasions culminating in his conviction and sentencing.
