Agriculture, as underestimated by many, it is now an answer to fight youth unemployment.
It is so refreshing how youth nowadays start businesses in agriculture.
One thing that entrepreneurs should keep in mind is that good things takes time to happen. As the famous phrase say “Rome wasn’t built in a day,”.
Nthabiseng Portia Mokhwanazi is a 25-year-old broiler farmer who was inspired to start her business after adding to statistics of unemployed graduates.
Portia told Kasi Voice News that having passion for agriculture it is what made her to start Mkhwanazi Chicken Hub that specializes with selling chicken.
“The inspiration behind the execution of my business is mainly my passion for farming and the background since I grew up in farm, that I monetized,” the entrepreneur added.
Today, having a tertiary qualification no longer open doors like it used to back in the days. The are millions of unemployed graduates in the country.
Portia currently holds N6 in Electrical Engineering that she graduated with a Cum Laude in Diploma of Agricultural Management, and she was named a top female graduate in agriculture by the institution.
Portia highlighted that her achievement are inclusive of, accessing the market, selling her first batch of 100 in two weeks and providing her clients with quality chickens and satisfying their needs.

Portia further said that, her main challenge is that Cornelia is a poor township this lead to many people buying her products on credit and that affects her cash flow.
She also added that her home town is in a remote area, this force her to pay extra charges for transport when she wants to buy feeds.
The entrepreneur added that in the next decade she sees herself penetrating the market and supplying big supermarkets, hotels and restaurants with her quality chickens.
“I also wish to have my own supply chain from production, packaging and to a grilled chicken outlet,” added the entrepreneur.
She added that due to high unemployment rate she wish to one day employ people in her business.
