Lifeless body of Lesotho woman discovered in squatter camp in Gauteng

The Gauteng police are on hunt for the brutal murder of a 24-year-old woman – believed to be from Lesotho, whose lifeless body was found with multiple stab wounds in Angelo Mission squatter camp in Boksburg, Gauteng Province.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:45 PM on June 13, 2024, has left the community reeling and authorities scrambling for answers.

According to witnesses and police reports, the victim, whose identity has not been officially released pending notification of next of kin, suffered gunshot wounds to her upper and middle body.

“We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence,” said police spokesperson Sekgobela Nelda.

“Upon our arrival at the scene, we found the victim already deceased with clear signs of gunshot wounds. We recovered cartridge casings nearby, indicating multiple shots were fired.”

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, leaving both investigators and the community puzzled.

“We have spoken to residents and witnesses in the area, but at this stage, no arrests have been made,” Nelda confirmed.

Local residents expressed shock and disbelief over the incident. “I knew her; she’s from Lesotho,” said one neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous. “We are devastated by her passing. She was a kind soul.” The victim’s family, notified shortly after the incident, is reportedly in deep mourning.

As investigations continue, authorities urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist in bringing justice to the victim and closure to her family.

The tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by communities living in informal settlements across South Africa.
