Former police officer and the alleged murder suspect, Teboho Sekonyela, hanged himself after being on the run from the police since Sunday.
On Sunday, July 24th, the police attended to a report about a couple living in Voortrekker street in Winburg. The report was made by a concerned neighbour.
After two days of trying to reach the 40-year-old lady of the house, the husband was contacted and he told the neighbours that his wife was in Pretoria.
The police immediately received the complaint and they swiftly attended to the given address.
Upon arrival, the police discovered the suspect’s wife’s body in cold blood and covered with a blanket.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had sustained strangle marks on the neck and arms.
The husband was however nowhere to be found, but had left a note stating he will commit suicide next to the body.
Apparently, he fled the scene with his powder-blue Volkswagen Polo.
Following the discovery, the husband was nowhere to be found.
The deceased was identified as Nomathemba Sekonyela, born on 8 December 1980.
The police then registered a murder case for further investigation, remained vigilant and alerted the community to be on the lookout for the suspect.
On Monday evening, the suspect’s car was found crashed in the bushes.

Sekoneya was found from 3 kilometers away from the vehicle and had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself.
