Tenant attacks farmer and nearly kills him on Monday, 27 September 2021, at Weltenvreden Farm, Zamdela, Sasolburg.
It is alleged the owner of the farm and his wife arrived at their home in the evening. The wife asked about the dogs’ whereabouts, but only one was found in its kennel. While searching for others, only one was found dead.
Apparently, she heard her husband shouting from the backyard. When she went to check, she saw someone attack her husband with a knop-kierrie. The alleged perpetrator turned out to be the person they gave accommodation to on the farm.
Her husband was attacked with the knop-kierrie and was lying on the ground with the attacker on top of him.
It is further alleged the attacker lost the knop-kierrie as the farm owner was lying on the floor. The wife then picked the weapon up and hit the attacker with it to get him off her husband.
The attacker was fatally injured, whilst husband was taken to hospital by ambulance.
On the scene, a deceased body was found. The following items were also found during inspection: a green spade with blood; the knop-kierrie allegedly used by the attacker (with blood); and a home-made knife with blood next to the deceased. These items were confiscated by the police.
One sheep dog was found dead. It appeared as if it was killed with a sharp object.
Circumstances regarding the attack is part of police investigations.
