Zamdela man held for alleged rape, murder

The male suspect, aged 31, was subsequently arrested and charged, after he allegedly raped and murdered a 34-year-ols woman on Saturday, 7 May in Zamdela, Sasolburg.

Fezile Dabi district spokesperson person captain Malebo Khosana said the suspect was arrested after he handed himself to the police.

“It is alleged that the victim and her boyfriend’s friend went out on a drinking spree in the absence of the victim’s boyfriend. The victim and the suspect continued hopping from one tarven to the other drinking,” explained Khosana.

Khosana further added, “It is also alleged that both drank uncontrollably. The suspect proposed to sleep with the victim, however, she refused.

Investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the victim and went on to strike her with a stone on the head.

“Information suggested that the victim was also raped, undressed and left with only a t-shirt on and a pair of shoes next to her lifeless body,” further detailed Khosana.

Khosana says that on the following day, the suspect man went to Zamdela police station to report the matter.

“He has been arrested for his involvement in the commission of this heinous rape and murder,” he said.

The male suspect is expected to appear before Sasolburg Magistrates Court tomorrow, 10 May.
