‘We urge Thabong residents to report crime, not take matters into their own hands’ – says Thabong SAPS

Thabong residents are strongly caution to refrain from taking law into their own hands, this was a stern warning from the Thabong police in a meeting that was held by police stakeholders in C-hostel, Thabong.

Lejweleputswa spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng said officials of Thabong Partnership Policing together with Community Policing Forum(CPF) discouraged community on doing mob justice.

“There is also a tendency where police are been attacked when they are executing their duties. Residents must stop this behaviour with immediate effect,” said Thakeng.

The officials also highlighted on other forms of crimes including, destruction of infrastructure, theft of copper cable, gender-based violence and femicide.

Residents were also encouraged to report such crimes so that the suspects can be apprehended.

Lastly, community members were urged not to temper with electricity as some households have burned due to electricity and some people lost their lives.

“Residents must phone these numbers when crime has been committed; Thabong police station 082 848 8120 or Welkom Flying Squad at 057-391 9500 or 057-391 9502,” concluded Thakeng.
