Three unknown and heavily armed men are wanted for a gunpoint robbery, after the shop owner was robbed off his car, undisclosed money and boxes of cigarettes in Welkom.
Revealing the news, Lejweleputswa region police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said the armed suspects forced themselves into the business premises yesterday, 19 May, at about 19:30 and overpowered three brothers, inclusive of the owner.
“The business premises was already closed when the three unknown African men attacked the owner, Mahommed Forkan and his two brothers with handguns, as they were parking the bakkie at the back of the premises,” Thakeng said.
“The three brothers were then forced inside their room at gun point and were tied with cable ties.
“The room was ransacked, undisclosed amount of cash and boxes of cigarettes were stolen and the keys of the bakkie were also demanded.
“The stolen items were then loaded by the suspects and drove off with a white Ford Ranger with a canopy and registration number HTN 189 FS,” he added.
Thakeng said the police launched a manhunt after a case of business robbery was registered for further investigation.
“Anyone with information leading to the arrests of these suspects, is urged to contact detective sergeant Pitso Matsie of Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes at 060 985 9330 or contact police emergency number on 08600 10111,” cautioned Thakeng.
