Welkom Flying Squad, together with Transito Cash and Carry Power Trade handed out sanitary towels and bath soaps to a school in Odendaalsrus on Wednesday, 03 November 2021.
The Squad, led by Lieutenant Colonel Nosizi Mangani; Captain Joyce Hescock; together with Transito Cash and Carry Power Trade, handed out 200 sanitary towels together with 120 bath soaps to Wessel Maree High School.
The school’s social worker, Madeleine Benecke, initiated the project. She realized the need of this drive as some girls cannot afford sanitary towels and therefore miss school during their menstrual cycle.
With upcoming 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign, Lieutenant Colonel Mangani and Captain Hescock echoed the same guidance to the pupils.
They urged learners to never keep silent about Gender Based Violence (GBV) and bullying; to reject and report any kind of abuse they may experience at the hands of family members or peers.
They advised learners to always confide in someone they trust. They further stated that victims of such crimes must speak out so that their abusers are arrested and put to justice.
Transito’operational manager, Billy Qhesi, also spoke to the children.
Lieutenant Colonel Mangani toned that learners must have Police Emergency number help line 08600 10111; or 10111 on speed dial; and also down load the MySAPS App on their phones.
Wessel Maree’s principal, Marinda Lombard, and educators appreciated and thanked SAPS and Transito and Carry Power Trade for their generous initiative.
