Welkom SAPS fight against gender based violence during police safety month

A prominent initiative by SAPS members under the leadership of Brigadier Disebo Cezula, the Station Commander of Welkom, which became a very good platform when they held Police Safety Awareness on GBV through a Round Table discussion on Wednesday, 22 September 2021, at NG Church, Welkom.

Colonel Beulah Siyaya delivered her welcoming address. Reverend Morake Vinger read the Scripture and said a prayer. Lieutenant Colonel Andiswa Myeki was directing the programme for this event.

This event was graced by highly qualified experts in their respective fields and professions who are mainly rendering support and counseling to victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Captain Andries Coetzee outlined the purpose of the gathering and further encouraged men and women in blue to talk about this pandemic called GBV, so that they can seek professional help.

Pastor Shadrack Monageng elaborated on Religious perspective regarding Gender Based Violence, how to maintain and manage relationships to curb the spread of GBV.

He emphasized on Agape Love, that husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the Church. Not to mistreat, beat or insult them.

Professor Solomon Makola presented on Psycho Religious perspective, that life is much about who you are as a person and not what you have.

Members to collaborate with the Holy Spirit, and find strength in the midst of suffering.

He encouraged members to challenge themselves to be better people.

Me. Tseleng Molete, a Social Worker demonstrated on GBV dialogue between men and women.

Motivational speaker, Sarah Lekale, emphasized on the importance of communication in relationship; to love ourselves first before investing to somebody; and that people to never stay in abusive relationships.

Brigadier Disebo Cezula thanked all the attendees especially special guests who took their time to empower SAPS members about GBV as they are solving problems of others whereas some of them are going through the same situations.
