Roadblocks throughout Lejweleputswa, 50 undocumented immigrants arrested travelling back to home country

The Lejweleputswa police, along with the FS provincial traffic department, the municipality traffic officers and the Department of Home Affairs worked on a joined operation on Friday, June 23rd, to effect arrests of undocumented immigrants.

According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the district experienced a lot of police visibility during these operations.

“During one operation held on the N1 road, Ventersburg, the police stopped a bus on en-route to a neighbouring country,” added Thakeng.

The bus had 50 passengers including children and they all turned out not to have proper documents to be in the country. As a result, police then arrested them for illegal immigration.

Furthermore, other roadblock operations were conducted in Virginia, Dealesville and Allanridge. Persons and vehicles were thoroughly searched to ensure road safety and roadworthiness of vehicles.

“Road traffic fines were issued to those who did not comply with the rules of the road,” Thakeng informed.

Thakeng also stated that these kinds of operations and roadblocks will be held regularly to ensure the safety of citizens and motorists on the road.
