A 30-year-old male suspect is in police custody following his arrest on Thursday, 25 November 2021, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.
Thaba Nchu launched the 16 Days of Activism and conducted door-to-door campaign, distributing pamphlets on sexual abuse on Thursday, 25 November 2021.
Later that day, members received information that an unknown male had just raped a girl near the bushes in town.
The concerned source gave police a clear description of the victim.
During searching for the victim, police noticed a person matching her description and further realised that she was in pain. After approaching her, the victim informed police that someone just raped her.
Police managed to trace the suspect to a local taxi rank before he boarded a taxi.
Duo female cops, with the community members’ help managed to apprehend the suspect.
He will soon appear before Thaba Nchu Magistrates’ Court facing a rape charge.
Police promise to continue with their operations around hotspots areas during the 16 Days of Activism and beyond. Furthermore, community members are advised to avoid walking alone at open spaces and bushy areas
