Earlier this year, Mzansi Magic announced that the production for its new Sunday night prime-time drama Queen Modjadji has commenced.
Mzansi Magic has set the stage for a captivating new drama series, “Queen Modjadji,” promising viewers an enthralling journey into the heart of South African storytelling. With production officially underway, the announcement of the heavyweight cast has sparked immense anticipation and excitement among fans eagerly awaiting its premiere.
“Queen Modjadji” is poised to take Sunday night prime-time television by storm, offering a rich tapestry of drama, intrigue, and cultural heritage.
The series delves into the mystical world of the Rain Queens of Balobedu, renowned for their legendary lineage and extraordinary powers.
At its core, the show promises to weave a compelling narrative that celebrates the resilience, power, and complexities of womanhood.
This epic story is inspired by the world-famous Balobedu legendary rainmaker, the first “Queen Modjadji“, whose bloodline has ruled Southern Africa’s Lobedu clan for centuries.
Leading the ensemble cast is a lineup of esteemed actors and actresses whose talents have left an indelible mark on the South African entertainment industry. Their collective experience, versatility, and dedication to their craft bode well for the success of “Queen Modjadji” as it endeavors to captivate audiences across the nation.
At the forefront of this stellar cast is SkeemSaam star Putla Setlapelo known for his role as Magongwa, he will in this show feature as Ramulodi — Keeper of the secret and the king’s keeper.
Setlapelo brings gravitas and depth to the role of Ramolaudi. With a career spanning over decades, Setlapelo is no stranger to portraying complex characters with nuance and authenticity.
Sipho Ndlovu joins Queen Modjadji Ndlovu and he will play General Phaahla — historically he was the cunning General of the Bapedi Kingdom.
Ndlovu is a talented ensemble of performers, each poised to leave an indelible impression on audiences. From seasoned veterans to rising stars, the cast of “Queen Modjadji” represents a diverse array of talent, ensuring a dynamic and engaging viewing experience for all.
Among the notable cast members is the 27-year-old Makoma Mohale, who has landed the coveted role the Rain Queen in the eagerly awaited Queen Modjadji epic series. Mohale whose charisma and commanding presence are sure to leave an impression in their portrayal of Maselekwani (Queen Modjadji), the young queen-in-waiting who brings about a golden age of peace and prosperity to the land.
No stranger to the small screen, Makoma has appeared in various television shows, including Mzansi Magic’s The River. A graduate of the performing arts, her first performances were theatre-based in plays such as Too Sweet Too Bad, Fright Alah, and The Infidel.
Complementing the ensemble are:
- Mudi Mudau (Khadikhulu) – Maselekwani’s Rakhadi (aunt), and head teacher and adviser.
- Putla Setlapelo (Ramulodi) – Keeper of the secret and king’s keeper. Putla has appeared in many M-Net productions like The Wild and various other local productions.
- Priscilla Raboroko (young Raisibe) – The daughter of young Maselekwani’s minders, and Maselekwani’s childhood companion and trusted friend.
- Aubrey Mmakola (Kgoshi Mampuru) – He was king of the neighbouring Bapedi Kingdom. Aubrey is an actor, dialogue coach, and director who has made his mark on the acting scene. He has been cast on shows like M-Net’s dramas Snitch and Jacob’s Cross as well as on kykNET soapie Binnelanders.
- Moses Raseleke (Mphabantshi) – The Royal healer, prophecy teller, and spiritual leader.
- Candy TsaMaNdebele (Muyahabo) – Award-winning musician popularly known to embrace her culture, traditional attire, and singing in Khelovedu, Candy plays Muyahabo, one of Mambo Mugodo’s wives and stepmother to Maselekwani.
