Police hold spiritual service for crime prevention

With the festive season approaching, the Lejweleputswa district police’ spiritual services and spiritual crime prevention saw it fit to hold a prayer service and ask for divine intervention as traffic violations, such as driving under the influence, are more common during the festive season and can lead to a number of fatalities.

On Thursday, October 13, a prayer service was held to stand in solidarity with the South African Police Service (SAPS) for God to help them to prevent and combat crime as well as to protect them in the process.

The occasion took place in the Methodist Church of SA in Welkom.

The Free State SAPS marching band performed at this event as well, providing heavenly sounds.

An opening prayer was offered, and Pastor Mongezi Dada of Spiritual Crime Prevention served as a programme director.

The guests were welcomed by Brigadier Disebo Cezula, while Reverend Chaplain Morake Vinger presented the event’s
purpose.

In his speech, he emphasised that spiritual services and spiritual crime prevention saw it fit to invite God in order to restore the earth as it is damaged and desecrated by crimes that transpires day and night.

He also highlighted the importance of praying for SAPS members as the festive season operations have already begun. In order for them to continue serving and protecting law-abiding citizens, they require heavenly protection.

Sergeant Jeminah Mojake reiterated that some members of the SAPS are victims, and others are perpetrators of the crimes that they deal with every day.

According to her for the SAPS to fulfil their mandate of protecting and serving residents they need to be interceded for because they too have their own challenges in their homes.

Sergeant Johannes Tlhobo pointed out that everything starts in the spiritual realm and that if people can regain their consciousness, then crime would decrease.

In his opinion this problem must be approached spiritually and that is the only way a change will be eminent. He said the aim of spiritual crime prevention is help people reconnect with their creator as the government cannot control a country where people are dead spiritually.

Brigadier Disebo Cezula delivered the keynote speech on behalf of Lejweleputswa District Commissioner, General Lerato Molale, she highlighted that policing is an integral part of what a police officer does.

She further added that the SAPS are the voice of hope and guiding light for the law-abiding citizens. Their efforts are acknowledged, and they should always maintain their dignity, even when they are not dressed in their beautiful uniforms.

In closing she reminded them that there are services designed for the SAPS members’ well being and encouraged them to seek help when the need arises.

The guest speaker, Reverend Nkosinathi Nombula encouraged SAPS members to never give up on themselves, since the community still believes in them.

He emphasized that it is crucial to know themselves outside and inside of their uniform in order to avoid doing the wrong things. Ultimately, he concluded that God cannot give his people battles too big for them.
