Members of Social Crime Prevention embarked on crime awareness campaign through a convoy which commenced on Friday the 15 October 2021 at 09:30 near the Central Park and Ferdi Meyer hall in Welkom.
SAPS members partnered with Speacil Operations Group, Taxi Associations, Emergency Media l Services personnel. The focus and purpose was to address Gender Based Violence, Sexual Offences, ATM Fraud, Theft out of motor vehicles, Cellphone hackings, Business and residential Burglaries, Alcohol and drug abuse.
The target was mainly at hot spots areas like Welkom CBD, Bok, Muizen streets, Zone 1 taxi rank as the main crime dominating policing areas that needed police visibility.
Members engaged with community to encourage them and help to combat crime. They distributed imformative pamphlets of different crimes. They further addressed commuters about crime trends mentioned above.
They pleaded with members of the public to report any criminal activities to Welkom Police Station numbers at 079 886 5574 or Police Emergency number 08600 10111 or via MySAPS App callers can remain anonymous.
