Meet self-published author, Siphesihle Mathebula

Toni Morrison once said, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it”.

Siphesihle ‘Thebulas‘ Mathebula is a true definition of this phrase and has made name for himself as a writer and many people across the country have read the taste of this young man’s writing.

Thebulas is a 21-year-old published author whom his inspiration for writing started when he was doing Grade 9 back in school.

“There was an essay competition in school. One of our teachers, a published author, encouraged us to write and enter the competition,” said Thebulas.

The University of the Free State academia mentions he began articulating stories in his home language [isiZulu], until he gained confidence to write in English.

Thebulas unpacked to the Ultimate voice of the community that his first debut book titled ‘I write to Rise & Shine as the Sunrise’ was a collection of short stories and it was published in 2020 when he was only 19-year-old.

A passionate student who is currently pursing a Bachelors degree in Education, attested that his main achievement in writing was to be a published author and he couldn’t believe how people in the country supported him with buying copies of the book.

Thebulas said, before he became a published author, his short stories were normally featured in local blogs and that was also an achievement as local people loved his stories.

Furthermore, Thebulas says he is still grateful that he once scooped a municipal noble prize for being the best writer.

Each an every aspect of life has its setbacks. Thebulas added that, “My main challenge of publishing another collection of short stories has to do with finding another publisher, that is my backlog.”

The published author wish to see himself as one of the best novelist in the future and as a playwriter for telenovelas.
