Manhunt continues for Maokeng rape suspects

Maokeng police are on hunt for three suspects who allegedly raped a 21-year-old female in Maokeng on Friday, June 17.

According to Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Motansi Makhele, the victim claim that she went to the shop in the evening to get pain killers.

“On her way to the tuck-shop, a white Volkswagen Polo stopped next to her. An unknown man opened the door, grabbed the victim and blindfolded her. The suspect drove off with the victim to the field,” said Makhele.

The victim alleged that the driver did not rape her, she was rapped by two males who were passengers.

After the incident, the three suspects flee the place leaving the victim in a place near bushes, where she got help from people who were passing by.

Fezile Dabi District commissioner, general Moses Makubo, has urged citizens especially women and children to not walk alone in the night.

“Let us refrain from keeping quiet and protect such perpetrators who perform these malicious acts and this can only be achieved if the community members work hand in flove with the SAPS in ensuring that we create a crime-free environment.

“Such criminals deserve to be behind bars and not form part of the community,” said Makubo.

“Anyone who might have any leads to this matter is urged to contact Warrant Officer Lizette Mouton on 083 455 1337 or can give an anonymous tip-off on MySAPSApp,” concluded Makhele.
