Hiking spot rapist still on the loose, cops asks for residents help

The Welkom police are sticking to the phrase, ‘the long arm of the law’, meaning they have all it takes to apprehend perpetrators of crime in due time.

This can be witnessed through the highly intensified manhunt launch for a suspect who raped and robbed a 32-year-old woman in the hiking spot in Koppie Allen Road, Riebeeckstad.

According to police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng, the suspect is still on the loose for the alleged incident that happened last year October.

It is alleged that the woman was in the hiking spot when she was approached by an unknown man.

“Suddenly an unknown man came from behind and dragged her to bushes where he repeatedly raped her,” said Ntholi.

The suspect stabbed the woman several times and took cash of the woman, cigarettes and her jacket and fled the scene thereafter.

The case was registered in Bronville police station with the aid of police officer who was passing-by.

“An identikit of the suspect was compiled. He is in dark completion, slender, 1,9 in height, he has a green ink tattoo on his left and right hand,

“He was wearing black bucket hat, black shirt and denim. He was speaking Afrikaans and Sotho,” Thakeng said.

“Anyone with information that will help in apprehending this rapist can contact detective Morongwe Ntholi on cellphone number 082 766 3502 or crime stop at 08600 10111,” the statement read.
