Seven farm workers were found murdered in Kestell outside Bethlehem this morning, according to Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, William Bulwane, six women and a young man were shot dead by unknown suspect(s).
“This morning we woke to worrisome news that there were seven people who were brutally assassinated at Lismor farm district outside Kestell, these recent killings in the country are disturbing and more effort is needed to protect lives of the people,” said MEC Bulwane.
He said officials will be working around the clock to bring those liable for the mass killing to be brought to book.
Free State police spokesperson Brigadier Motansi Mokhele said lifeless bodies of farm workers were recovered by the farm owner inside their house.
“Apparently victims were brutally shot and killed by unknown suspect(s). The motive behind is not yet known,” Makhele said.
“The names of deceased and their ages are not yet known and couldn’t be disclosed as their next of kin has not yet identified them formal,” he added.
Thus far no arrests have been made, and the police said they have launched a manhunt for these suspects.
Provincial commissioner, general Baile Motswenyane, has urged the police officers to work hard and to leave no stone unturned.
“I instructed the team to work around the clock and never let me warn the perpetrators that they can run but the mighty hand of the law will catch up with them.
“Our condolences to the families of these victims, who lost their loved ones in this horrible manner,” concluded general Motswenyane.
