South Africa has been a home to brutal murder and mass shootings recently, with many people killed every week.
Another shocking incident happened in Alexandra, a township in Gauteng Province, where Alex FM popular presenter, Joshua Mbatha has been killed with four other victims by gang members on separate incidents.
It is alleged that Mbatha and his two other colleagues were going home from work when they were robbed their belongings yesterday night, July 14.
Mbatha was shot in the chest, while two others managed to flee the scene unharmed.
Isaac Mangena, who is the Alex FM chairperson said that, Mbatha died in Masakhane clinic at the late hours on yesterday night.
“Let us keep the family and Josh’s colleagues in our prayers. May his soul rest in peace. A promising career gone too soon,” said Mangena.
Mbatha was 32-year-old at the time of death.
Gauteng police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Mavela Masondo, said seven suspects involved in this mass killing have been apprehended.
Earlier on, Masondo revealed that the first arrest was of one suspect busted in possession of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition in Alexandra.
“The suspect is still being profiled to establish if he is linked to the shootings. The firearm will be taken for ballistic test to determine if it was used in the commission of crime,” Masondo said earlier.
The police have registered five cases of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.
