The Oranjeville police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a vehicle fell into the Wilgerivier in the early hours of Sunday, 05 November.
According to the Fezile Dabi police spokesperson, sergeant Josephine Rani, three men were allegedly driving from Frankfort to Oranjeville. Furthermore, their white Toyota Hilux lost control when driving over the Magrieta Prinsloo Bridge and fell into the river.
The Free State diving unit along with the K9 search-and-rescue unit recovered three bodies of deceased males. “The deceased are namely Rakometsi Lazarus Thithi (28), Prince Mako (33) and Money Mofokeng (37),” informed Rani.
Rani also added that the investigation still continues.
In August 2021, the Wilgerivier claimed three lives in unclear circumstances following the retrieval of a car from the river. The Magrieta Prinsloo Bridge is verry narrow with small rails barricading the sides of the bridge’s ends. As a result, motorists think twice before crossing the bridge.
The bridge is single lane with robots at each end regulating the use of the bridge. There appears to have been work done on constructing a new bridge at some point in the past. After the construction of the pillars, the project was abandoned.
