The Kroonstad police are probing murder of an elderly woman at an old age home in Maokeng, Kroonstad.
Police spokesperson Josephine Rani, says the police are currently investigating a murder case, after the body of an old woman aged 73 years was discovered by one of staff members at the facility.
Rani says the informant saw devastating scene where the abandoned body was eaten by dogs on yesterday, when they reported for duty.
“The old age home staff says when they knocked off on Sunday afternoon, they left the deceased and her roommate in their bedroom with the door locked,” says Rani.
Rani adds that, the informant then told the police that when they reported for duty on Monday morning, they became suspicious after they found the door unlocked – but not broken.
“The woman had sustained injuries and her clothes were found next to the fence within the yard,” added Rani.
While the police are currently working on preliminary investigations, they are calling for anyone who may have information to contact them.
