Case against trio on lecturer’s disappearance postponed for bail application

Three suspects implicated in disappearance of a lecturer appeared before the Virginia Magistrate Court on Monday, 19 June.

According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the court postponed the case to 28 June for bail application. All three suspects currently face kidnapping and hijacking.

“Trio suspects, Mokhali Albert Lekesi (37), Mosebi Mahajane (43) and Yonela Samacala (25) will remain in custody awaiting trial,” added Thakeng.

More on the story: The 28-year-old CUT lecturer Khatliso Edwin Makhetha (28) residing at Meloding, Virginia, was last seen on 05 May along with his vehicle. His brother, who lives with him stated that he thought Makhetha went to watch a soccer match at a friend’s place.

Two days later, the brother called Makgetha but never got ahold of him.

The missing person’s vehicle, a black Ford Fiesta was found in Lesotho with two occupants in it. Both of them were arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle.

“They are still in custody of Lesotho authorities, awaiting extradition to South Africa,” informed Thakeng.

The investigation and the search for the missing lecturer will continue in the mean time.
