Case against livestock thieves postponed for bail application

The Ventersburg Magistrates Court postponed the case against duo suspects arrested in Senekal for possession of suspected stolen sheep for bail application.

On Saturday, 12 March, Ventersburg SAPS received information about a suspicious vehicle parked next to Rolbos in Pienaar Street, Ventersburg.

According to Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, two police officers, sergeants Lebatla and Mosi attended to the information received.

Upon arrival, officers found that the vehicle’s occupants were not around. Apparently, they went to the petrol station with a five litre plastic bottle.

“Duo sergeants approached the pair upon their return from the petrol station,” said Thakeng.

The police asked them about the sheep inside the vehicle, but the two could not provide documentation for their possession of the livestock.

Following a preliminary investigation, the police discovered the report of six stolen branded sheep in Senekal.

As a result of the new information, the police arrested the pair for possession of suspected stolen sheep.

The police called the farmer in Senekal to identify the sheep and handed them back to him.

They appeared before Ventersburg Margistrate Court on Monday, 14 March, and the court postponed for bail application on the 21 March 2022.

Molefi Johannes Moleko (33) and Mohau Nthebe (41) are the two suspects in this case.
