Cops bust female prison warder, boyfriend for stolen furniture worth R69 000

The police in Heilbron have made trio arrest of a female prison warder and her acquaintances after they confiscated furniture – suspected to be stolen yesterday.

Police spokesperson captain Malebo Khosana said: “On Wednesday, the 27-year-old prison warder, her boyfriend and their male friend were put behind bars for suspected stolen furniture by members of Heilbron SAPS.”

The police received a tip-off about stolen furniture at the house of a female prison warder, where they found a fridge, a double bed (base and mattress) and a washing machine.

“When questioned about these items the woman claimed she bought [them] from someone],” said Khosana.

These items were confiscated by the police and she was arrested.

“Investigation led to another address, where two couches suspected to be stolen were also found and confiscated by the police.

“The address of the lady’s boyfriend was visited where more furniture pieces were found.

“They include a fridge, washing machine, double bed (base and mattress) a three-quarter bed, headboard and Samsung Plasma TV. He was also arrested,” added Khosana.

Subsequent to the arrests, stolen items were linked to a business burglary case that was reported earlier this year in January 2022, after burglars barged into Lewis Stores.

“The complaint was that the warehouse storing furniture was broken into and items valued around R64 000 rands were stolen. The store representative identified the items as theirs,” he added.

The trio will be charged for possession of suspected stolen items.

They will appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 11 March.
