Police officers hosted an awareness campaign to empower local farmers in Boshof, a farming town in the west of the Free State province.
The safety campaign was aimed at addressing amongst other underlying issues, that involves around; stock theft and illegal hunting.
The event which was attended by police officers and farmers took place on Thursday, 10 March, where the district commissioner Major General Lerato Molale unpacked prevention tips to assist farmers in case of stock theft.
He pleaded with farmers to have a WhatsApp group in order to communicate effectively and to decrease crime that is committed in farms.
“The Boshof Rural Safety Coordinator, Warrant Officer Morne Eberson should lead the process of establishing WhatsApp to keep farmers abreast crime tendencies or pattern analysis,” he said.

He further said that any suspicious looking vehicles and people must be reported immediately to the police.
“Farmers promised to continue working together with the police of Boshof to fight crime. Illegal hunting was also emphasized and that must stop,” he added
He concluded that the coordinator of rural safety will still meet farmers to make sure that the is a decrease in stock theft and people who illegal hunt with dogs.
The campaign, led by the Major General was also conducted in conjunction with officers from Boshof Police Station.
