4 suspects due in court after found with stolen items

Four men are facing the music, after a swift response by the Maokeng police found a number of suspected stolen items in their car, as they were attempting to flee the city.

According to Kroonstaad police spokesperson captain Malebo Khosana, suspects were arrested in Maokeng for transporting stolen television.

“The arrest was made during Vehicle Control Point (VCP) next to Boitumelo Regional Hospital,” he said.

“The motor vehicle had four males including a driver, the driver was then requested a driver’s license by one of the police official, and he didn’t have it,” he added.

It is alleged that the police officer noticed a plasma TV in the back seat when he was issuing a fine to the driver.

“On further questioning about the TV, the suspect said it belongs to him. This is where captain Motsoeneng told him to drive with them to his home to show proof of documentation to ownership of this property.

“As they were on their way, the suspect [spilled the beans] and told Motsoeneng that the TV is some of the stolen items.

“He further disclosed that, some of the items are at Zuma Park, in Maokeng,” explained Khosana.

Khosana said from the address provided, the police discovered other items believed to be stolen.

“Recovered items include Plasma TV, lawn mower, sound mixer and seven bottles of alcohol.

“These items where then linked to a business burglar in Kroonstad that happened a day ago,” he said.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Kroonstad Magistrate Court on Thursday, 17 March.
