32-year-old man arrested after his granny’s body exhumed in the yard!

The Bloemfontein K9 Unit, Local Criminal Record Centre along with Tseseng police exhumed an 88-year-old woman’s body buried in a shallow grave in her yard at Malekunutu Village.

According to the Thabo Mofutsanyana police spokesperson, warrant officer Mmako Mophiring, yesterday the community became uneasy after days of not seeing the elderly woman.

It was established that the granny was last seen on June 23rd by neighbours ans other family members.

“The community approached the police and reported this elderly woman as missing,” added Mophiring.

As a result, the police conducted a search along with the community and the Anti-Stock Theft team. This search included finding the missing woman’s grandson, who ran away when he realized they were looking for his grandmother.

However, the search team caught and questioned the man.

“From the questioning, it was established that he buried his grandmother in the yard,” informed Mophiring.

Allegedly, the grandmother passed away from an illness. So, as a result of not having burial money, the grandson buried the 88-year-old. The man did so without informing other family members or the police, even though he collected the grandmother’s pension money.

Following all the findings, the police arrested the 32-year-old for defeating the ends of justice and violation of a corpse. A postmortem is yet to be conducted to determine the cause of his grandmother’s
