Amogelang Mall, previously known as Liberty Centre shopping centre in an upmarket area in Welkom is up for sale – AGAIN.
In 2021, the shopping centre was sold for a staggering amount of R 35 million. This followed the plethora of fiscal challenges the mall was facing since the arrival of the Goldfields Mall.
It was not all over, as last year, the mall went up for auction once again in 2023 and was sold for R19 million.
However, there has been a shift in circumstances, as the mall is going for auction next week. According to auctioneers, it is alleged that the person who made the purchase last year faced certain issues concerning the bond, resulting in the current liquidation of the mall.
The auctioneers have opened a bid for the mall at R9 million, with expectations of selling the property for a slightly higher amount due to liquidation circumstances.
The 16 000 square meter mall shopping centre originally opened its doors in September 1985 and was one of the first shopping malls in Welkom.
The mall is well-positioned on a major intersection in the heart of the town’s central business district with major taxi ranks situated around the mall with easy access for pedestrian shoppers and vehicles.
Amogela Mall offers an upmarket, clean and secure location for business, as well as free parking for patrons.
The shopping centre is described as a striking retail landmark that harmoniously combines contemporary design. Its glass panels and sleek lines exude elegance and maximise natural light to offer a bright and airy shopping experience.
