A 40-year-old and 45-year-old will appear before the Heilbron Magistrate Court today, after busted for being in possession of explosives.
“Two suspects were arrested in Heilbron on Saturday, 11 June by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Welkom together with K9 unit based in Kroonstad as well as Stock Theft Unit based in Heilbron,” Free State Hawks spokesperson Christopher Singo said.
Singo said an intelligence driven operation came following a tip-off about the two suspects who wanted to sell explosives.
“The police followed up the information and made arrangement with the suspect to buy the explosives.
“The suspects then agreed to meet the police on Saturday, 11 June, where they offered to sell the explosives to an amount of R50 000, detailed Singo.
It is alleged that during the meeting, the suspects then reduced the offer to R35 000.
“After they reached an offer of R35000 the suspects produced the explosives, and the police official alerted other police officials who came and arrest the suspects,” Singo detailed further.
