Bronville| A group of boys went swiming on Saturday, 08 January 2022, at a mine dam and two brothers aged 5 and 7 years old drowned.
According an eyewitness, the five-year-old brother moved to a deeper side of the dam and struggled to come out. His older brother (7) tried rescuing him but both of them disappeared and drowned.
The incident was reported the following day day on the 9 January 2022 at 08:30.
SAPS Diving Unit led by Lieutenant Colonel Conrad Fouche, visited the scene and managed to retrieve the two bodies.
Members informed next of kins and identified duo brothers as Nic-Nadio Pienaar (5); and Marshall Pienaar (7) residing in Peterson Street, Bronville, Welkom.
Police also registered an inquest case for further investigation.
Police warn parents to ensure that children refrain from swimming in dangerous places and to also know their children’s whereabouts to avoid such disasters.
