Man died when his shack was ravaged by fire on Sunday evening, with eyewitnesses reporting “black smoke billowing” from the scene.
The police were called to the blaze in Hani Park, Thabong at around 8pm, when neighbours noticed a broad blaze and smoke billowing from the shack.
When the police arrived at the scene, the man was pronounced dead at the scene as the destructive force of the fire caused significant damage to the body of the deceased.
Circumstances surrounding the incident – cause of the fire have not yet been revealed.
However, Kasi Voice News established that, allegedly the deceased was with his friends and they were sitting together next to a hot plate and, his allies decided to leave as it was getting late, and he was left all alone at his home.
According to eyewitnesses, fire broke out at around 20:30.
Authorities urged residents to exercise extra caution during the cold snap hitting the Free State Province.
Police have sealed off the scene.
Residents who attempted to extinguish the inferno, managed to douse the flames but everything in the house had been destroyed.
Circumstances leading up to the cause of the fire, are being investigated by SAPS.
