Sundowns thrash miserable Chiefs to go top of table

Mamelodi Sundowns scooped an easy victory under their belt as they trolled struggling Kaizer Chiefs in a 4-0 victory at Loftus Versfeld stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was an unfortunate result for the Amakhosi who were out in full force to thrash Masandawana at their home ground, however, the Chloorkop side mastered the art of capitalising on single mistakes to vigorously outplay Chiefs to snatch a win.

Masandawana’s Gastón Sirino capitalised on an error made by Siyabonga Ngezana in the eighteen area, and made no mistake in putting the ball into the back of the net in the fifth minute of the encounter.

The current DStv Premiership champions continued to pin immense pressure on Arthur Zwane’s lads before the half way mark of the first half, where the Amakhosi barked up the wrong tree again, with Ngezana pulling down Masandawa’s fierce Peter Shalulile in the box.

Shalulile wasted no time to maintain his momentum, as he fired a beautiful penalty to give Sundowns 2-0 into the halftime.

Downs headed into the tunnel with a well-deserved lead, and their mandate to wrap the entire match with a heartache to the Amakhosi came into reality after firing another two goals in the second half of the match, to give their home side a 4-0 victory.

The two goals for the Chloorkop side came from Shalulile and Abubakar Nasir.

Shalulile grabbed his brace after some silky footwork between him and Themba ‘Mshishi‘ Zwane in the box, to make it 3-0.

Chiefs had a chance to switch the gears and bring the match alive when they snatched a penalty opportunity.

Khama Billiat who was off-form failed to give his side a consolidation goal, when the newbie, Ronwen Williams denied him a penalty that was followed by a second strike.

In the 76th minute, Nasir with a sensational solo run down the wing, left the Chiefs defence in the dust and placed a last goal behind Bruce Bvuma, who might be having nightmares following floods of goals smashed behind him.

Sundowns climbed up in the ranks to secure their usual spot in the DStv Premiership with a crucial three points after a clinical 4-0 win.

Speaking post the match, the Amakhosi’s teary headman Zwane admitted that his charges were in deep water, as they failed in their bid to conquer the reigning champions.

“We’ve got experience in our squad, we didnt come to the party we were flat footed, we were not ourselves we were playing against the best quality and is a learning curve for our younger ones, we chose the best eleven but we didn’t make it past the edge,” said Zwane.

Zwane said they will use the midweek break to revamp and reorient the squad.

“There’s chemistry as players understands one another, however luck was not on our side, we will use this midweek break to restructure and I can add that, this was a wake up call to learn more of our mistake,” he said.
