Khama Billiat’s late strike earns Chiefs victory

Khama Billiat became hero of the night for the Amakhosi after he pulled a late strike to earn Kaizer Chiefs a narrow win against Baroka FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Glamour Boys walked out of the stadium with three points after thrashing Bakgakga Ba Ga-Mphahlele with a 1-0 victory on Saturday night.

A very tough contest between the two DStv Premiership sides was nearing for a draw, but the Glamour Boys’ talisman, Billiat, cracked back of the net to give his side a gift of the night with his superb strike at the peak of the injury time.

The Amakhosi dominated the proceedings, making numerous entries into Baroka’s Oscarine Masuluke’s box, however, the then nominee for the FIFA Puskas Award denied the Glamour Boys an opportunity to break the deadlock.

Both teams headed to the half-time with 0-0, as both sides had it tough to find back of the net.

In the second half of the match, Chiefs made several attempts to find the opener, but their efforts were blocked by Masuluke.

The youngster, Sabelo Modise who came in for Kearyn Baccus in the 81st minute changed the game as he pushed for his side to pin immense pressure to the fatigue Baroka, and his stellar combination with Billiat, helped the Amakhosi to find back of the night, just when the match was in the dead end.

Radebe’s superb cross found Billiat who easily placed the ball in the back of the net to guarantee three points to the Amakhosi as they moved to the second position just behind the log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The struggling Baroka are on the tail of the log table with 14 points.

In other matches played on Saturday, the Soweto giants, Swallows FC knocked down Sekhukhune United with a 1-0 win, while Marumo Gallants walked away with three points after Chiefs former player, Joseph Molangoane scored a late strike to give his side a win.

Gallants claimed a thrilling 3-2 win over Chippa United on Saturday afternoon.
