Massive clean up at Kaizer Chiefs, as senior players and staff part ways with Amakhosi!

There’s a massive sweep at Kaizer Chiefs, with the new dawn spearheaded by head coach Arthur Zwane, looking ahead to start a new era at the Glamour Boys.

In what turned out as least expected announcements this afternoon, the Amakhosi announced the departures of several star players and staff on Wednesday.

The Soweto Giants parted ways with their key players, Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro, Daniel Akpeyi, Daniel Cardoso, Lebogang Manyama and Lazarous Kambole.

The Serbian marksman, Samir Nurkovic, was the first in line to be announced facing an axe from the club, having joined the Naturena side three years ago.

Chiefs also announced the departure of goalkeeper head coach Lee Baxter, the son of Stuart Baxter, whose father was shown the exit door last month.

The club released a statement to confirm all departures:

“Kaizer Chiefs will not extend Samir Nurkovic’s contract when it expires on 30 June 2022, ending a three-year relationship. The popular Serbian forward began his Chiefs career like a house on fire, scoring 14 goals in his maiden season,” read a statement on Chiefs’ Twitter account.

Soon after, the club revealed the contracts of Lazarous Kambole, Daniel Cardoso, Kearyn Baccus, Leonardo Castro, and Anthony Akumu Agay would expire in June and not be renewed.

Chiefs then shocked the football fraternity as the club opted against renewing the contract of attacking midfielder Lebogang Manyama and star goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

The club said: “Lebogang Manyama will also be out of contract at the end of June and is free to find a new team. The attacking midfielder joined Amakhosi in August 2018 from Turkish side Konyaspor and played 95 matches, scoring on 15 occasions.”
