South Africans must brace themselves for cold, wet weather over the weekend

South Africans are set to expect cold and rainy weather over the weekend, this has been confirmed by South African Weather Services( SAWS) on Tuesday, 17 May.

According to SAWS the rain can be expected from today, 18 May, until next week.

“Widespread rainfall can be expected over the southern and central parts of the country from Thursday onwards,” said SAWS.

The statement also highlighted that mountainous and high-lying areas of East and Western Cape may experience low snowfalls.

“Thunderstorms, combined with strong, gusty surface winds are expected over the central interior by Friday afternoon, spreading to Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal in the evening and parts of Limpopo by Saturday,

“Warnings in this regard will be issued if necessary. Due to the pre-existing condition of water-saturated soils in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, rainfall amounts exceeding 20 mm are likely to lead to localised flooding,

“It is therefore important for communities to take the necessary precautions to prepare for such conditions,” the statement read.

The statement further detailed that, the higher temperatures will not exceed 14°C on interior parts of the country.

Whilst on high-lying areas of Eastern Cape, the maximum temperature are expected to be lower than 8°C.

“Rainy conditions are expected to continue over the eastern parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga and the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal during Sunday.

“However, the public can look forward to a general clearing of weather conditions as well as a recovery in daytime temperatures from Monday onwards as he system exits the country,” the statement continued.

South African were advised by SAWS to follow weather forecast on radio or television for recent weather updates.
