South Africa has recorded 10 017 new Covid-19 infections, as the country approaches fifth wave of the pandemic.
According to the national health department, the country’s high case mark is a clear sign that the country will be entering another wave sooner than expected.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said that new Covid-19 cases identified in South Africa, brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,862,165.
“This increase represents a 25.3% positivity rate,” said the NICD in a issued statement.
10 more deaths have been recorded in the past 24 to 48 hours.
“The cumulative COVID-19 deaths are 100,609 to date. 24,765,642 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors as per the table below,” a statement read.
Majority of new cases are from Gauteng with 39%, followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal by 21%.
Western Cape accounted for 17%; Eastern Cape and Free State each accounted for 6% respectively, while Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 3% respectively.
The Northern Cape accounted for 2% with Limpopo accounted for 1% of new cases.
