Crime Intelligence received information about a scrap metal dealer with suspected stolen copper cable and opertionalised it with Copper Cable Theft Task Team.
The team approached a scrap metal dealer on Wednesday, 15 December 2021, in Virginia and requested to search his premises.
During the search, members found suspected stolen copper cable weighing 8,8kg valued at R7 092.
The 38-year-old dealer did not have proper documentation to be in possession of this copper cable.
Authorities arrested the suspect for possession of suspected stolen copper cable.
He will appear before Virginia Magistrates Court on Friday, 17 December 2021.
“We regard the dealer’s arrest and copper’s seizure as a breakthrough. It shows residence are becoming more willing to report crime and police will always be there to ensure justice,” says Major General Molale.
