Sasolburg Court finds Transnet copper cable thieves guilty for R140k stolen cable

The Sasolburg Regional Court has found the two copper cable thieves, Foxy Khoza and Frans Bila guilty for theft of a copper cable, belonging to Transnet.

The accused, appeared before the Sasolburg Regional Court on Wednesday, 11 May 2022 where they pleaded guilty and were sentenced to a fine or imprisonment for possession of stolen property.

“On 30 March, Zamdela police were busy patrolling on the R82 road when they stopped a bakkie carrying copper cables valued at more than R140 000,” explained Free State Hawks spokesperson captain Christopher Singo.

“The docket was then handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Sasolburg.

“Further investigation revealed that the copper cables belonged to Transnet,” he detailed further.

The court sentenced Khoza to five years imprisonment or R10 000 fine.

While Bila, was sentenced to a fine of R1 500 or five years imprisonment.

The accused were declared unfit to possess a firearm.
