FS High Court dismisses application by Gupta’s owned company to overturn restraint order

The Free State High Court situated in Bloemfontein, has dismissed the application by Gupta’s owned-company, Islandsite Investments to have the restraint order application on the Gupta assets postponed.

Islandsite Investments approached the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) yesterday, with an attempt to overturn the decision of the high court on the legal representation of the busted company.

In their application, the Guptas’ said they wanted to resolve a rising matter on whether the board of directors or business rescue practitioners should represent the company at the Bloemfontein High Court.

They also argued that the court shouldn’t take into consideration the National Prosecuting Authority’s application to make a permanent restraint order on their assets and those of the Gupta family business associate, Iqbal Sharma.

The case relates to R24.9 million paid by the Free State department of agriculture between 2011 and 2012, where payments were made for a feasibility study for potential farming projects in the province.

The money was allegedly paid to Nulane Investment between these period.

The NPA’s Investigating Directorate application to confirm the restraint order on the Gupta assets has been postponed to the 20th of October.
