The 37-year-old rape suspect who was caught in the act by two community members is set to appear before Sasolburg Magistrate Court, tomorrow, 7 June.
Fezile Dabi District spokesperson, captain Malebo Khosana, detailed that community members heard the voice of the lady who was screaming for help in the late nights of Saturday, 4 June, and they decided to follow the voice.
“According to the community members, they were walking in the street in Chris Hani Section, Zamdela at about 22:00, they alleged that they heard a lady’s voice screaming for help,” said Khosana.
The witnesses further said that they followed the voice until they found a man raping a woman near Thehasetjhaba School.
“They caught a suspect and took him to the police station. A 29-year-old female with swollen and bleeding face also went with them to the police station where a rape case docket was opened for further investigation,” he added.
The woman then claimed that the suspect is the ex-boyfriend whom she was at the party with during a day of the incident.
It is alleged that the suspect then followed a woman and they argued that led to her being raped and assaulted.
Zamdela station Commander colonel Mohili Sereetsi applauded the community members for helping the victim and bringing in the suspect to the police station.
“We need good community members who protect their fellow community members member without beating up the suspect,” concluded colonel Sereetsi.
