Post Office attempted robbery accused sentenced to four years behind bars

Harrismith- Attempted robbery accused, Percy Teboho Mtjekelo (27) was found guilty as charged by the Harrismith Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to four years direct imprisonment for a charge of attempted robbery. 

Mtjekelo’s conviction emanates from an armed robbery incident attempt that took place on Tuesday, 02 July 2019 where the accused entered a Harrismith Post Office armed with a toy gun and threatened employees before security officials intervened and foiled his attempt. He then ran away and was apprehended a short distance from the scene.

The matter was handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Bethlehem for further investigation culminating in his sentencing on Thursday, 29 July 2021.
