Police pounce on two suspects with drugs worth R200k

The Welkom K9 Unit has pounced on two suspected drug dealers in the N1 road in Ventersburg, who were allegedly driving a truck carrying Khat plants of drugs on their route towards Western Cape direction.

Police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said the Welkom K9 Unit received a tip-off about a delivery truck with drugs.

“The truck was stopped near Ventersburg and there were two occupants – a 38-year-old foreign national residing in Cape Town and a 60-year-old South African man residing in Alexandra from Gauteng. Request was made to search the delivery truck,” detailed Thakeng.

Thakeng said, the police discovered 10 boxes of Khat plants consisting of 2 000 plants valued R200 000.

“The suspects were arrested for possession of Khat plants drugs. The delivery truck was also seized,” he said.

District commissioner of Lejweleputswa, general Lerato Molale lauded members of the K9 Unit for responding swiftly and ensured that suspects were arrested with these Khat plants of drugs.

These suspects will appear before the Ventersburg Magistrate Court.
