The Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) operationalised intel received regarding drug dealing in Odendaalsrus and Wesselsbron.
On Wednesday afternoon, 25 May, the POP followed up on information received about an individual selling drugs to school learners in Wesselsbron.
According to Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, as part of the operation, the officers stopped and requested to search boys at Sker Corner Market.
“Upon searching them, they found four full Mandrax tablets, four halves and five quarters. They also found six large zip locks of dagga, four mediums and cash amounting to R150,” Thakeng said.
“The 28-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs and dagga,” he added.
“In a separate incident in Odendaalsrus, on Friday night, 27 May, the Welkom POP Task Team were on crime combating in Kutloanong. They then stopped and searched an unknown male in K9 Section.
“They found a Nyaope packet in his possession and he voluntarily offered to tip the police with where he bought it,” Thakeng detailed further.
Information provided by the suspect led the officers to a house in K9 Section.
Upon arrival, the police requested to search the premises and received permission.
During the search, the police found and seized 33 packets of Nyaope Drugs, a crushed Mandrax tablet, and cash amounting to R263.
A 34-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs and is set to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court today.
The Lejweleputswa District Commissioner, major general Lerato Molale, praised the POP Task Team and Crime Intelligence for their commitment in ensuring that information is followed up and leads to positive results.
“We will continue to remove these drug dealers from our streets,” added major general Molale.
