In the quiet hours of the night on Saturday, at around 23:00, a seemingly tranquil evening turned into a horrifying ordeal for a family in Mosewawa, Welkom.
The chilling incident unfolded as one of the victims was engrossed in late-night TV, completely unaware of the impending danger.
A group of unidentified men, their numbers shrouded in uncertainty, descended upon the residence with malicious intent.
Using bricks, they ruthlessly shattered windows and a wooden door, breaching the sanctity of the home.
According to police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng, the intruders, once inside, embarked on a rampage, breaking and destroying everything in their path.
“As chaos ensued, the situation took an even darker turn.
Without warning, the assailants initiated a deliberate act of arson, setting parts of the house ablaze,” Thakeng said.
The once secure and familiar surroundings transformed into a nightmarish inferno, leaving the family with no choice but to navigate through the growing flames and make a desperate escape through a window.
