Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, visited Welkom, Free State as part of the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour on Friday, 17 December 2021.

Upon the beginning of his speech, the police minister clarified that police presence throughout the town was for police visibility and ensuring that citizens feel and are safe.
General Cele further stated that members needed to combat crime, and uphold the code of conduct with integrity.
“You must protect all community members, especially women; children; elderly and those with disabilities,” addressed the minister.
Bheki Cele also urged members not to hesitate arresting perpetrators when someone reports crime and abuse; even when the perpetrator may be a friend or a relative.
Another emphasis the minister made was that the police need to not only protect the public, but themselves as well.
“You can’t die with a gun in your hand. You have been given tools of trade to use for your defence,” Cele told the members.
Lastly, minister Cele highlighted the importance of police intervention in rape cases and minimizing such incidents from happening.
After the speech, police brass band played the national anthem and drilled thereafter as the minister and generals dispatched.
