The Virginia High Court sentenced a 37-year-old man accused of murder and rape to four life sentences on Thursday, 15 June.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, two female bodies were found dumped near a cemetery among garbage in Thubelisha, Thabong on February 4th, 2018.
“Both bodies had sustained multiple injuries to their eyes, their intestines protruding and hung from a nearby wire. The bodies were also half-dressed,” added Thakeng.
As a result, detective warrant officer Gerrie Nel of Thabong Serious and Violent Crimes was assigned murder and rape cases for further investigation.
Furthermore, on November 26th of the same year, a 44-year-old woman registered a case of attemped murder and assault. However, the suspect was found not guilty and discharged by the Welkom Magistrate Court on 25 March 2019.
Thakeng also informed that the complainant’s body was found on April 16th 2019 the woman’s body murdered in the same manner as the ones in February 2018.
“The body was also dumped at the same same garbage spot near the cemetery in Thubelisha, Thabong,” said Thakeng.
This docket was also assigned to officer Nel, who conducted a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of the accused, Benedict Tshediso Rantsheuoa (37) in November 2020.
He was found guilty as charged by the Virginia High Court on Thursday, 15 June and sentenced to four life sentences for triple murders of women and three counts of rape.
The acting Lejweleputswa district commissioner, Brigadier Mzondi Mojafi, applauded the officer in charge of the investigation for the hard work.
“We hope this will send a strong message to people abusing women,” concluded Mojafi.
