Foreigner arrested after found in possession of water pump worth R50k

The Dealesville police have arrested a foreign national, after he was found with stolen property and a water pump valued at R50 000.

Lejweleputswa police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said police officers were on duty when they noticed a suspicious person carrying an object folded with a black plastic on his shoulder.

“Yesterday, 6 May at about 14:00, Constables Butinyana Dangube and Thotobolo Sebotsa of Dealesville Visible Policing were busy with their routine vehicle patrol in R64 road when they noticed an African man carrying an object folded with a black plastic on his shoulder with a travelling bag,” said Thakeng.

“The members approached him and on realizing that gesture, he dropped the object and tried to flee.

The African male person was chased until he was caught him in a nearby farm and brought back to where he dropped the object,” revealed Thakeng.

Thakeng said the police seized both the water pump and other stolen property.

Furthermore, Thakeng said the alleged suspect failed to produce necessary documents that proves stolen property belongs to him and “he had no legal documents to be in the country” said Thakeng.

A 43-year-old is set to appear before the Dealesville Magistrate Court on Monday, 9 May 2022.

The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, General Lerato Molale applauded the two police officers for making the successful arrest.

“I highly applaud their vigilance and their commitment to ensure the safety of the property of the law abiding citizens,” said Molale.
