Cops arrest over 9 suspects in connection with crime related activities in Ficksburg

The police’s intensifying of operations in Ficksburg this past week resulted in the arrest of nine suspects, including women who were caught red-handed with stolen items.

According to police spokesperson in Thabo Mofutsanyana district, Mmako Mophiring, a joint operation by the Welkom public order police (POP) and the Ficksburg police pounced on these suspects for different criminal activities, and they are all to appear before the court this week.

On Wednesday, August 24, Mophiring says the police were informed of certain person who was in possession of stolen property alleged to be stolen during burglary at police stores near Ficksburg port of entry.

“The team acted swiftly and the information led them to suspect at Meqheleng Shopping Center.

The suspect admitted to have been in possession of the stolen items but had sold them. He then willingly took police to the houses he had sold the items at around Meqheleng and Ficksburg,” says Mophiring.

He said the police found stolen items such as a padlock and extension electric cables .

Mophiring says a total of seven arrests was made, and they are all due to appear in court.

Suspected dagga manufacturer arrested with large zip lock plastics containing dagga

The police nabbed a 31-year-old male suspect for dealing in dagga in Meqheleng near Ficksburg. 

On Friday August 25, the police were conducting patrols in Meqheleng when they were stopped by community member, who tipped the police of a person selling dagga in the township.

The informer told the police that her child was fed dagga by the alleged drug smuggler.

“The house was approached and house searched quickly and ran after the suspect who was found flushing powder and dagga in the toilet,” Mophiring elaborates.

The police confiscated undisclosed cash and dagga in his room as he had already destroyed other drugs.

“We seized 45 medium and large ziplock plastics containing dagga. The suspect is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate court today,” said Mophiring.

Ficksburg’s most most wanted suspect busted!

Another sting operation finally arrested Meqheleng’s most wanted suspect for commission of rape, kidnapping and robbery cases.

Mophiring says on Saturday, August 27, Welkom’s POP assisted Ficksburg police to crack down the alleged suspect who has been evading arrest for some time.

“The team tactically approached the suspect’s hideout in Zone 3, Meqheleng and found him while still bathing and effected the arrest,” she says.

Mophiring says the suspect has been in hiding since last month.

The 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate court today facing three charges of kidnapping, rape and robbery.
