Acclaimed novelist, global award-winning author, inspiration poet and an entrepreneur of note, Nontlantla Mthimkulu has kept her readers enthralled, informed and entertained with her eye-opening books.
The 22-year-old hails from Maokeng, Kroonstad. While growing up, she did not have any writers to emulate, as a result she describes her writing passion as strange.
She discovered this passion during her high school days but initially she wanted to publish poetry as it was her first love. Her feelings would be transferred to paper whenever she felt unhappy. Writing was her go to place as a way of escape from whatever made her sad.
Nontlantla is an author of two books, ‘HERE- My Own Dear Land and Blind But Not Blinded‘.
HERE is a short story poetry book that aims to acknowledge and encourage consciousness about our continent Africa and it was published in 2020.
In the book, the author says there is more to a place than just being at it. What the eye meets and what the mind ponder is what touches the heart.
Blind But Not Blinded is a book that aims to Break the yoke of limitations and stagnation, it will open your eyes to the possibilities of life.
It narrates a story about Mindy who is the Blind Minister and it reminds readers that nothing can stop the purpose of God from prevailing in our lives.
The book was published this year.
According to the author, Here was inspired by her surroundings and the everyday changes in life that we rarely talk about and realizing how many people have limited themselves inspired her to write Blind But Not Blinded.
Furthermore, she added that we usually talk about ways in which others limit us, but we rarely discuss how we limit ourselves, especially when it comes to disabilities and capabilities.
As a society, we are turning a blind eye to the fact that we have a lot to do with hindering progress in our lives instead its easy for us to blame other people for our own barriers of limitations.
Nontlantla is not only a global award-winning author but she has been featured in eight global anthologies and she has been featured in multiple international magazines and Newspapers for both her books.
The Kroonstad Wordsmith is a Mental health advocate and founder of My Mental Health Pty Ltd.
A company that blends Mental Health with Christianity and Art. She believes that prayer is also a defense mechanism and Art has the healing power.
Under her company she released an anthology which is an African Poetry Collection as well as a Magazine.
When asked why mental health is important to her, she said that it impacts our daily lives, thus affecting our purpose and the way we execute our duties.
In order to fulfil our purpose, we need to learn how to control the things that affect us emotionally, mentally, and physically, otherwise our purpose could be compromised.
People’s perception of mental health and the way they deal with it, motivated her to start a Mental Health Company.
“I was motivated by both the assumptions that has been fed to people as facts and the narrow approach we have on Mental Health.
“People who suffer from certain mental health issues believe that there are things they cannot do. There is no limit to what we can achieve if we put our minds to it.
“If God has ordained it, there is absolutely nothing that can stop us nor make us less capable, hence, we have to deal with Mental Health issues.
We should not be hindered by it,” said the global award-winning author.
Moreover, she emphasised that mental health issues shouldn’t be dealt with one approach which is medically.
In her opinion, it is not just depression, but a demon, and a different approach is necessary. It is her firm belief that a person suffering from demonic depression cannot be cured by medicine or therapy.
Pills are not meant to deliver us but to treat the issues.
Nontlantla’s message to those suffering from mental health is for them to know the root cause of their condition. Sometimes, we deal with the right thing the wrong way.
Her books are available for direct purchase.
